T1.1.Methodological support of the university teaching courses and the Jean Monnet Summer School
Methodological support of three new European Union studies (Environmental policy and legislation of the European Union; Environmental project management in the European Union; and Environmental communication: the European Union strategies and approaches) will include elaboration of syllabuses, presentation materials of lectures and teaching materials for seminars, reading lists for the courses, and manuals for students for each course. Methodological support of the Jean Monnet Summer School will include agenda of the School, presentations of key speakers, reading list for learners and list of key questions for discussions.
T1.2. University teaching course on Environmental policy and legislation of the European Union
University teaching course for the third year bachelor’s students in environmental science and in biotechnology at National University of Food Technology, Kyiv, Ukraine will comprise 40 academic hours and cover key aspects of EU environmental policy and legislation, forming strong background for the next teaching courses of the Chair. One group of bachelor’s students in environmental science (25 students) and one group of bachelor’s students in biotechnology (25 students) will be involved into the teaching course. The course will include the following topics:
- Basic principles of the EU functioning, adherence of the EU to the sustainable development
- Formation of environmental policy of the EU, Environmental Action Programmes
- Development of the sustainable development strategy of the EU, Europe 2020, and a Sustainable Europe by 2030 strategies
- Toward to climate-neutral Europe, the European Green Deal, Fit for 55 package, the EU's circular economy strategy and approaches
- EU strategies and legislation in data processing and open data usage. Open data to achieve the EU green transition
- The EU's policy and legislation in atmospheric air quality control and protection
- The EU's policy and legislation in natural water protection. The drinking water quality control in the EU
- Effective waste management in the EU as a key element of many environmental strategies
- Nature protection in the EU, Natura 2020 protected areas network, biodiversity strategy of the EU
- Implementation of European Union environmental legislation into legislation of Ukraine
Each topic will be covered by lecture and discussed at the following seminar. The course will be based on EU legal acts and European Commission communications, reports of Eurostat, and relevant analytical publications.
T1.3. University teaching course on Environmental project management in the European Union
University teaching course for the fourth year bachelor’s students in environmental science and in biotechnology at National University of Food Technology, Kyiv, Ukraine will comprise 40 academic hours and cover key aspects of effective environmental project management in the EU. One group of bachelor’s students in environmental science (25 students) and one group of bachelor’s students in biotechnology (25 students) will be involved into the teaching course. The course will include the following topics:
- Basics of project management, European traditions and approaches in research and education project management
- Environmental projects in R&D, environmentally friendly business projects, the EU's environmental ambitions
- The European Union's policy, programmes and funds for environmental projects
- Management and leadership, team work and effective communication for effective project management, European culture and approaches
- Environmental risks' assessment in project management, the European Union's case studies
- Digital approaches for effective environmental project management. Access to open environmental data in the EU
- Erasmus+ programme activities and calls supporting environmental projects
- Horizon Europe research programme and its role in reaching climate-neutral ambitions of the EU
- National European programmes and funds for environmentally friendly projects and activities
- Challenges for Ukraine in EU approaches of environmentally friendly project management, case studies

T1.4. University teaching course on Environmental communication: the European Union strategies and approaches
University teaching course for the fourth year bachelor’s students in environmental science and in biotechnology at National University of Food Technology, Kyiv, Ukraine will comprise 40 academic hours and cover key aspects of effective environmental communication based on the EU strategies and approaches. One group of bachelor’s students in environmental science (25 students) and one group of bachelor’s students in biotechnology (25 students) will be involved into the teaching course. The course will include the following topics:
- General principles of effective professional communication, European Union guides and recommendations. The European Year of Skills 2023
- Different levels of environmental communication, the EU context, European Commission's environmental communication
- Self-presentation of young professionals, Europass CV, motivation letter, job interview
- Effective presentation and discussion strategies on the environmental challenges and projects, negotiation's skills
- Effective interpersonal and team communication, international, European and national features
- Effective features of online communication: e-mailing, online meetings, social media promotion
- Crisis communication and problem solving, European Union's environmental cases
- Case studies on effective EU environmental communication
- Challenges of post-war rebuilding of Ukraine and effective environmental communication
T1.5. Jean Monnet Summer School on European Union environmental management and communication
The annual Jean Monnet Summer School at National University of Food Technology, Kyiv, Ukraine aims to reach Ukrainian policy makers, civil servants, and civil society representatives. The 12 academic hour agenda of the School will cover key aspects of EU strategies and approaches on effective environmental management and communication. The agenda will be significantly based on EU official documents and recommendations, analytical and research papers. The team members will cover key aspects of the EU environmental strategies and policy with significant accent on practical issues of effective environmental management and communication. Invited speakers from EU universities will share their first-hand experience in the field and provide relevant case studies. Significant contribution into the School agenda we expect from the team member Dr. A. Giritch due to his long-term experience in successful management of EU funding environmental friendly research projects. Special session of the School will be oriented on effective environment communication training with case studies and role-playing activities. The School implies to be the impetus for participants to continue self-education in the field and be in close contact with the project team for further collaboration.
T1.6. English Speaking Club on effective communication
English Speaking Club on effective communication for university students involved into the European Union studies, young interested researchers and university teachers will provide opportunity for intensive oral practice in English in terms of effective environmental communication. Weekly meetings for about one and half hours each will provide students great opportunity to immerse themselves into relevant oral English practice. The meetings will be moderated by Prof. Yakymenko, other team members, and interested participants of the Club. We expect about 12 permanent participants of the meetings each semester.
T1.7. Analytical research on EU effective strategies and approaches in environmental management and communication
Analytical research on EU effective strategies and approaches in environmental management and communication and its applicability in Ukraine will be carried out. Research activities will be coordinated by the Chair holder Prof. Yakymenko and will result at least in three peer-reviewed articles, and six reports at international conferences and forums. The research will be oriented on active involvement of students studied teaching courses in terms of the project.
T1.8. Online activities of the Chair
Online promotion of the Chair will support all activities and provide visibility and dissemination of the project results. The website of the Chair will include teaching materials, relevant EU official documents, guides and recommendations, analytical reports and scientific publications. The website and other online activities of the project will be actively used for involving potential learners into the project activities as well as for the dissemination of the project results. The university teaching courses and the Jean Monnet School materials will be posted on the website and will be available everyone. Research activities and results of the project will be also presented here. Dr. Shapovalov will be in charge of the website due to his high qualification and experience in ICT. All team members will also provide informative support of the website and relevant promotion of the project activities on social media. The website will be active after the completion of the project.
